Downtown Fort Wayne’s DORA Just Got a Whole Lot Bigger

Downtown Fort Wayne is having quite the year. In addition to a 42% expansion of the Downtown district itself, the city just welcomed an upgraded DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) on January 15, creating one seamless, walkable zone—with more places to grab a drink and more freedom to roam.

The biggest change in this update is the consolidation of the previously separate Electric Works DORA into the Downtown Fort Wayne DORA. Rather than two distinct zones, there is now one clearly defined district that reflects how people already move through Downtown: from the hub that encompasses The Landing, Promenade Park, and the Pearl District, through Parkview Field and over to Electric Works.

Updated signage and maps have been installed throughout Downtown, and participating businesses display official Downtown Fort Wayne DORA materials so you always know where you’re welcome. If you’re new to DORA, here’s what you need to know before you go:

A DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) allows adults 21 and older to purchase alcoholic beverages from approved vendors and carry them outside to enjoy within the DORA’s boundaries. So you can grab your drink and explore everything Downtown has to offer—whether you’re catching live music on The Landing, wandering the riverfront at Promenade Park, or waiting for your table at a favorite restaurant.

There are a few key things to keep in mind:

  • Your beverage must be served in an official Downtown Fort Wayne DORA cup from a participating location.
  • DORA beverages can be enjoyed between 11 a.m. and 3 a.m., seven days a week.
  • You must stay within the DORA boundaries while consuming your beverage.
  • Empty cups must be disposed of before entering another establishment—look for DORA recycling bins throughout Downtown.

Sustainability is part of the picture, too. Through a partnership with Brightmark, a circular innovation company, Downtown Fort Wayne recycles its one-time-use DORA cups to divert plastic waste and support a more sustainable Downtown environment. Responsible enjoyment, from start to finish.

Wondering where to get your DORA on? With over 25 participating locations spread across Downtown, your DORA journey has plenty of stops worth making. Here’s a neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to help you plan your route:

  • Promenade Park: Start your adventure at teds Snack + Bar, tucked right inside Promenade Park along the riverfront. It’s a natural first stop, with a full bar, spiked shaved ice, and one of the best views in Downtown.
  • The Landing: Just a short stroll from the park, The Landing is home to some of Fort Wayne’s most beloved bars and restaurants. Pick your vibe from Bistro Nota, BRU Burger, Dana’s, Marquee, Mercado, Nawa, Night Train, and Tolon.
  • The Pearl: Head over to The Pearl to explore Amoré, Crescendo, and the newcomer Ducky’s. Next door at The Bradley, Arbor and Birdie’s bring the craft cocktails in an ultra-chic setting, delivering rooftop views that are worth the stop alone.
  • Wayne & Calhoun: Continue your route to find craft beer staples Dash-In and JK O’Donnell’s, plus the sleek, Spanish-inspired Próximo just around the corner.
  • Parkview Field: Circle around the stadium for a stretch of Fort Wayne favorites: Burger Bar, Conner’s Kitchen + Conner’s Rooftop, and the award-winning Copper Spoon and The Sidecar.
  • Electric Works: Cap off your DORA journey at the stunning Electric Works campus, where Chapman’s Brewing Company and the vendors inside Union Street Market are waiting to give you a proper send-off.

The DORA expansion is one more sign of Downtown Fort Wayne’s momentum. Since launching in May 2024, the program has become a major part of what makes Downtown such a vibrant, walkable destination. Whether you’re a longtime local or visiting for the first time, the expanded DORA makes it even easier to discover everything our community has to offer, one sip at a time.
