Another Cheerful Season at the Headwaters Ice Rink

Each winter, Downtown Fort Wayne transforms into a magical wonderland. Buildings are adorned with bright holiday lights. Festive events and performances pop up across multiple venues. And Headwaters Park, usually a haven for festivals and live music in the warm summer months, becomes an enchanting winterscape arena, where friends, family and lovers can all experience the timeless joy of ice skating.

 

This year is the Headwaters Ice Rink’s 21st season, and with it comes a unique and romantic way to enjoy outdoor recreation all season long. Whether you’re looking for a new skill to learn, a way to freshen up date night, or a new tradition to try with family and friends, the Headwater Ice Rink is a great place to spend a winter’s day or evening.

 

The Headwaters Ice Rink is a special gathering place for so many reasons. Here are some things to know before you visit.

It’s inclusive to all ages and experience levels:

 

Skaters of all skill levels find their place on the ice, from beginners tentatively taking their first glides, to seasoned skaters showcasing their skill and grace. The Headwaters Ice Rink is a judgment-free zone and boasts a welcoming community. So don’t let your lack of experience hold you back. 

 

To get folks more comfortable on the ice, the rink is even hosting a class this season from the Fort Wayne Ice Skating Club (for ages 10 and under). Whether you take a class or self-teach, you’ll find a supportive group of skaters at the rink.

In addition to affordable skate rentals, the Headwaters Ice Rink offers a concession stand with warm beverages, freshly popped popcorn, and other refreshments. So, if you work up an appetite on the ice, you don’t have to leave the rink to refuel. 

 

Looking for something a little more substantial? Club Soda, Hall’s Gas House, Takaoka of Japan, and The Landing are all within walking distance.

Not ready to take the plunge just yet? The Headwaters Ice Rink welcomes spectators to watch all the icy escapades for free, making it a great winter activity whether you prefer your feet to be on or off the ice. 

 

Kids ages 2 and under are also allowed in for free, and there’s free parking!
