Event Description: The third annual Groundhog Open is coming to downtown Fort Wayne Thursday, February 6th, 2014. This indoor golf tournament is brought to you by your Downtown Improvement District as a benefit to raise funds for downtown beautification efforts and the Downtown Planter Program.

The Groundhog Open will be played on a beautiful indoor 18-hole championship putting course laid out between the Grand Wayne Convention Center, the Historic Embassy Theatre/Indiana Hotel, the Hilton Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriott.  Designed by sponsors of each individual hole, this extraordinary layout, crossing Jefferson Boulevard and Harrison Street will challenge even the most skilled golfer!

The Groundhog Open will feature four flights of golfers: at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm, and 4:00pm. Closing ceremonies including prizes will take place at the 19th-hole after-party at the Courtyard by Marriott upon completion of the final flight of golf. You must be there for your chance to win prizes. A light lunch, snacks, a “halfway house” and a cash bar (after 1:00 p.m.) will be available to players.  Four person teams may register for this benefit at $100 per player.

The Groundhog Open is a benefit and raises funds towards the expansion and maintenance of the year-round Downtown Planter Program. The planters were originally established by the City as part of the 2009-2010 renovation of Calhoun Street, and are maintained by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department, with the strong support of your Downtown Improvement District. The extraordinary popularity of the floral streetscapes with downtown residents, employees and visitors has lead to many requests for expansion of the Downtown Planter Program.
